The Holy Grail for Silk Skin

The Holy Grail for Silk Skin

Biocompatible, Natural Skincare Is In.

Tallow, the rendered fat - precisely the leaf fat of the kidneys, is an ancient remedy and remedial powerhouse. The content of fat-soluble vitamins a, d, e, & k, all being antioxidants mean tallow fights oxidative damage to the skin from either UV radiation or environmental pollutants. Oxidative damage is what causes skin to sag and show fine-lines and wrinkles. Tallow's fatty acid profile is prolific; stearic acid locks in moisture and acts as natural emulsifier, oleic acid allows for deep penetration of the skin, hydrating from within for a supple skin feel, and palmitic acid reduces water loss through the skin, assisting with dry/ flaky skin & helping in conditions such as eczema & psoriasis. Tallow is similar to the sebum oil produced by the skin, absorbing well instead of sitting on the surface and leaving a greasy feel and look. The silky consistency of our balm allows a little to go a long way.

Play around with your routine, some apply tallow morning and night and love the feel of hydrated, soft skin, whereas others find one application morning or night every other day is most suited to their skin. Tallow is non-comedogenic and safe on skin of all ages, including pregnant and breastfeeding women and babies. It is safe on all skin types, including sensitive and acne prone. Find an application routine that suits you best.

Our tallow is triple purified over a slow and meticulous process, preserving the abundance of beneficial nutrients. The suet comes from a farm nearby, making it ethical and sustainable by promoting nose-to-tail respects for the animal, and reducing emissions by sourcing close by.

The Timeless History of Tallow in Skincare

For centuries, across cultures and eras, tallow has been more than just a cooking staple, it was skincare before skincare was manufactured and commercialised. Long before modern cosmetics, people turned to this natural, nutrient-rich fat to protect, nourish, and heal their skin.

Tallow Origins

The use of tallow dates back thousands of years. In Ancient Egypt, tallow was blended with herbs and natural ashes to create some of the earliest balms and soaps. It was valued for its stability and ability to protect skin from the harsh desert climate.

The Romans were known for their elaborate bathing rituals, and tallow often featured in their ointments and skin preparations. Its ability to soften and shield the skin made it a vital part of daily self-care.

Throughout the Middle Ages, tallow was a household essential across Europe. It was used not only in soaps and candles but also as a soothing salve for dry, irritated skin. In farming and rural communities, it became a trusted remedy to protect skin against the elements. Genghis Khan and his warriors were known to cover themselves in tallow to avoid frostbite on their nomadic travels.

What makes tallow so timeless is its unique composition. Rich in fatty acids that closely mirror those found in human skin, tallow absorbs beautifully and provides long-lasting nourishment. This skin compatibility is one reason it has been cherished for generations.

Tallow Today

In modern natural skincare, tallow is making a comeback. As more people seek out simple, bioavailable, and toxin-free ingredients, tallow stands out as a time-tested solution, bridging the wisdom of the past with the needs of today.

Tallow’s history is more than a story of tradition. It’s proof of nature’s ability to care for us across centuries. By choosing tallow-based skincare, we reconnect with an ancient practice that remains just as effective, gentle, and relevant today.
